This is part of my prezi it shows the film editing we had done in order to complete our main task.

This part of my prezi shows the costumes we thought about and the problems with the clothes worn.

Prezi Presentation: Evaluation on 2 minute piece

http://prezi.com/hfzjvq0lm_jl

This shows the problems we had whilst filming and the location choices we were going to use.

This shows the overall evaluation. There are some questions i answered too that were relevent to our filming.

On the webpage you can see more clearly of the information and text above. Also access to the locations and problem information.

Evaluation

In our two minute task we wanted to try and create a piece that gave off tension and suspense. Making our 2 minute film we wanted to use the camera to show movement so we thought about moving it along with the characters to give off the feeling on nervousness and watch them like someone was there. When we first thought about our film piece each person I our group came up with ideas on how to set the task we all came up with the idea of it being dark and have tension, trying to mix all of our idea into one. We thought for our target audience would be young adults and people who like thrillers and suspense; I think we fulfilled our set task in creating this.
Whilst trying to find the best location we wanted it to be quite dark and mysterious so we filmed in a field in Catton as it was a fairly open space but had some dark areas also a small park for shot of a swing. We originally thought about having a merry go round moving and a shot of someone moving in the background but when filming we couldn’t have had the merry go round in one location and the swing in another as it wouldn’t look right plus we only have a certain amount of timing with the lighting as we wanted it to be fairly dark but still able to see, at the beginning of the film it is very light and clear throughout the film it gets very dark and quite difficult to see so we had to edit the lighting to get a better look at what was going on. At the beginning of the film we start with a full 360degree turn of the park, then close up of the swing moving but with nobody there and closes up to follow, we also did a lot of ground shots so you see the characters legs as they walk pass, this gives off the feeling of movement. Through the rest of the film we used theses techniques and at the end of the film we had the idea of letting the camera fall to give a sense of mystery of what happen next as you can hear screaming.
With our group we had difficulties in meeting up and people turning up. So when filming needs to be done it had to be done without them.

Two minute piece Images.

This shows the landscape view of the field and the park. We do a full 360 to show the whole field, as it is an establishing shot. I like the idea of having the camera also looking like its from a persons point of view.

The park is shown to make you look at a point on the screen instead of a plain field. We then zoomed into the swing showing it moving to add supsence and mystery as there is knowbody there. Also we tried to keep it as dark as possible even though it was very light when we started filming.

This shot focus's on the people walking, trying to keep it dark and keep the tension we thought about having the dark colours on the characters. When watching the shot we wanted to keep it like the camera was following these people and they do not no so they carry on.

This shot shows that the camera is facing downwards towards the feet. We thought that when you watch this low angle shot you get the feeling like someone is watching you movements. Before this printscreen is shows that the people walk inline with the level so it looks like there walking out of the camera.

This shot was suppose to be a shoulder level shot keeping in pace with the people walking. when you watching i think the effect we tried to create with this shot works well as the fast pace of the shot goes quite quickly but keeps in the tension. Also throughout the short piece the scenes get darker and darker which also adds to the effect of mystery.

The car going past i think acts like a seperator between the quiteness and supsence, but still has that sense of mystery in the shot. The clip works well in the place we put it however there is a time in this clip that the camera moves a little off the angle is is suppose to be at.

This shot shows that the characters are running away from something behind. I like the way you never see what it is they are being chased from. However the shot is quite dark and is a little difficult to see what is happening.

This shot is a little dark, but it shows the characters walking into the camera. While editing this video i tried to lighten the clip as it was very dark and hard to capture what was going on. But i think the darkness adds to the main aim of the 2 minute piece.

At the end of the filming, we decided to make it so the camera falls down and ends like something has happened. We tried to keep the shots relevent to the type of film we wanted to portray and i think it worked well.

Research: 3 Video Clips

Looking at different films to help base our film on, or to get a certain feel in our 2 minute piece like in the trailers on the ones below.

Batman- The Dark Knight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UBP2nXtRRo

Watching the trailer you can see throughout you get the dark and sudden loud noise after the important moments in the trailer. Also You have the voice in the background. When listening to the voice in the background you find it more dominent than the actual video. This could be a possiblity to add to our 2 minute piece.

The Bourne Identity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cD-uQreIwEk

Again there is a voice in the background, you listen to the voice more than the video. However this film to start with is not dark, it draws you in by showing you the main character in a lighter form of lighting than the Dark Knight. There is fast shots of different situations to sum up the event. When watching the trailer you can see it is an action film by the clips they have chosen. With this film trailer we could use the idea of a fast pace and make it lighter.

Panic Room: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A4zsmFYlss

The trailer is quite dark and fast paced. the voice in the background is quite powerful and dominating. Throughout the trailer it slows down as you find out more of the film and the characters in it. There is quite dramatic music in the background too. I think out of these trailers i would choose the idea of having a dominant and dramatic music playing to make more suspence.

Idea's for the first two minute opening of a film

For the idea of filming the opening of a film we wanted to keep with comedy as we thought it was a lot easier to create. But we also thought about doing a thriller genre as we wanted to try something new. It took a while to think of what we could do for or two-minute piece as we wanted to keep it

Thriller: With the thriller genre we thought about it starting in the dark, with a light flickering or swinging. This would build up the tension and then it could make a loud bang noise and go to the beginning credits with the title, names etc.

Comedy: With trying to base our two minutes on a comedy film it was difficult to come up with something original but different to what we ahd done before. So i thought about looking at a variety of comedy movie clips for example Austin Powers- Goldmember, and Rat race etc.

Also we thought about the style of skins the E4 teen drama. For example on the opening of the programme it shows various characters moving and switching over quite quickly, with rough outlines of them cut out layering on top of each other. Usually it is very upbeat and fast. Plus in the trailer they have the characters doing anything for example smoking, walking around and kissing etc. We could create a similar two minute piece with credits.

Evaluation of the Preliminary Task

Problems:The problems we had when editing our film was that a actor's t the end of our recording the body isnt of full display only his torso is visible. this doesnt give the best effect of him storming out of the room. Also once we uploaded our film we realised that in the background their was carrier bags, and people in the shots so trying to cover them up or crop them out was very difficult as we had to make sure every bit of the before and after clips matched up evenly, so it doesnt jump too much and make it noticeable. We ended up making them just a lot more unnoticeable to the viewers. With the 180 degree we wanted to get the effect of walking around the table but if doing the whole table it would mean the actors kept cutting in over the recording, we did this a few times also by slowing there movements to get in front before they could cut in front of the camera this meant one of our camera angles the 180 degree rule was only half made we stopped once we got to the other side of the table in our film. When trying to slow our speed down of the dating sign at the beginning, our actors walking into the door and walking towards the other actor. This process was very long and confusing, we ending up slowing down each section by about half a second. The film after walking in was at a good speed and didnt need editing but only cropping.

Editing:With editing we had to cut down the scenes into the correct time sequences we wanted them to be as we did not want them to drag on making it less entertaining to watch. We pretty much did that with all of our film, then making the flow right was key to as some parts would jump for example one piece the actor hit the flowers on the floor stands up slightly then it jumps into the next recording of him sitting down. This part we edited and added the end scene of the flowers on the floor after he had dropped them to take the fast pace our of the actors movements then the part showed him getting up and leaving. At the beginning we thought instead of just watching the speed dating sign doing nothing we added a fast spin to it to grab your attention. With sound and music we looked for some approiate music but our film is about hearing the conversation.

This was hard to get perfect as the spin was too fast to even recognise what the sign says. We found out how to make it slower but we had to add another one of the same clip after the spiral as it would have been to fast even when slowed down. Changing the colour also the black and white for the whole film made the background less obvious as there were objects we did not want to see. For the end scene we added the flower shot fading out to conclude the film this summed up the final clip as it seemed very slow and ends up seeing nothing. But we had to add two of the same clip again as it would have been a bit fast for you to recognise what happened.

Overall the final film was successful as we got most of the shots we wanted only one was half way compleated and we know next time to plan out more carefully where we will do the filming, the time of day, the actors, and the background. We will need to make sure for our next piece keep out any unnecessary objects and props. choose the costume carefully, Plus make more time for ourselves to film. The way we finished the piece and managed to find out what the problems were whilst making and editing halped us improve our film and overcome some difficulties we had. Once choosing our location it was hard to find out what dialogue to say as when you start to film the mood changes within the room so the humour may be better when the dialogue is made up, That is what happened we made a rough dialogue and the actors improviced on what to say.

Filming problems

whilst filming there were some difficulties we had to think about, like making the scene around us look like a dating style room or even a restaurant. we had to think about the little props like candles, flowers or even cups of tea. This was difficult as once we filmed it and uploaded we saw that you can see carrier bags plus the other group members in the background. Also whilst filming it was hard to keep a straight face with some of the dialogue that was said so making the clips shorter was needed to make sure no laughing was in it too. When the manflower was walking around the camera moves around with him it was difficult to capture every detail and try to keep it steady, the probelm we had was he would but infront of the camera also they wouldnt talk loud enough for the camera to hear. Another problem we had was how to work the camera and to capture the right bits at the right time as we would not know if we were recording or not.

Dialogue

Whilst thinking about the film we also had to think about the dialogue.

Walks towards door stares at the sign (dating sign) with flowers this is where the camera shot, match on action will be. He walks into the room see's the person, goes to the seat already seated by his date, stands behind whispers in his/her ear. ''Hi are you Jannie?'' other person doesnt respond just nods. the man with flowers then walks around the table 180 degree rule at his view. the man flower sits down and looks puzzled, he says ''are you . . . ., looking for . . .'' the man/she doesnt answer but then looks annoyed saying '' do i look like a woman in need of love?'' this conversation is shot reverse shot. This is more about facial expressions, the man flower drops the flower and leaves we do a close up of the flowers.

this was our original dialogue, but when we started filming it was completely different as they got into the roles better. the words they said in the film suits the mood and atmosphere.

Rough Photograph Layout (shot 5)

This photograph shows the floor in which the flowers will be laying on once they have been knocked off the table. we will zoom in on the flowers.

Rough Photograph layout (shot 4)

This image shows what the actor will see once he is sat the table. When the film is recorded you will also be able to see the other actor opposite him. This shot will be one of the main shots and will be very important that it is done correctly. As you will see the conversation between both actors also the main shot reverse shot. Plus you will see more facel expressions too.

This is the view the character will see when he goes to walk into the dating room. we thought it would be interesting and you get a better feel into the character if you see from his point of view. Some of the shots we will do will be shown from that character's view. This is only a rough photograph of the layout at the start of the film.

My Preliminary Task

Planning my preliminary task i had to think how could we make a short film piece with someone entering and leaving a room after a few lines of dialogue. With my group we came up with the idea of a blind date, but not as you think. We have a lot to think about in making it convincing so we made three storyboards presenting what dialogue will be said, the character movements and the camera angles. We will be adding different camera shots like 180 degree rule, shot reverse shot and match on action. For our background noises we were thinking of some sort of ticking to resemble a timer, also having little finishing touches to make the film more realistic like adding a poster or a sign on the door. We thought that instead of having a full quick conversation we will make it more about the facial expressions and reactions about the mix up of dates. With the dialogue we haven't fully decided on what they will say but we have a rough idea about what they might say and the reactions, but the most the characters will say is about two sentences each. When filming we will properly trial and error the filming as we need to get every angle right, lighting and sounds. so far we have done a rough filming of what camera angles we would like and the movement of the characters. We also have taken photos at the view of the character of the surrounding they will see.
